2018 Purist Winter Drive – Great Cars, Greater Cause

Photos & Words: Justin P.

“Welcome” – Sometimes it’s a warm greeting, sometimes it’s a response to thankfulness. In either case, both were felt very strongly on the day of the annual Purist Winter Toy Drive in Southern California.

Sean Lee, automotive enthusiast and all-around great person, is the founder and fearless leader of Purist Group. Bonded by a passion for cars, all sorts of people come together for a cause greater than themselves – helping fill kids with smiles and joy this holiday season. With a toy donation as the only requirement, many come to show of their cars in support of all of Sean’s efforts. From imports to domestics, exotics to classics – you’ll find yourself surrounded by an epic mix of vehicles. This annual event continues to grow and grow, with this year arguably the biggest it’s ever been. The amazing support Sean is able to get is very heartfelt, with this year including the California Highway Police, Nitto Tire, Mazda, Reach Out World Wide, Michelin, Lamborghini Newport Beach and much, much more.

Here are a few highlights from the Purist Winter Drive:

Cody Walker of Reach Out World Wide hanging out at the Mazda Display.

Cody’s wife and daughter, Felicia and Remi, admiring the toys overflowing Drake Kemper’s Mazda MX-5 Miata Cup Car.

Justin Romulo ain’t playing no reindeer games.

We’re LIVE with Bisi Ezerioha of Bisimoto!

The super talented Deven Hitchens making quick work out of this iconic Ferrari.

Yogi’s Toyota Tacoma camping out at the Nitto Tire / Driving Line booth.

Michelin brought out some great cars, but the Blitz R348 GTR is what garnered a lot of attention.

Although the Koenigsegg Automotive AB Agera RS is just as awesome too!

Daniel K. Song (at Super Street) and Dominic Le (with Chasing J’s) with a couple Datsun 240zs bringing the Christmas joy.

It’s time to party because Adrian Ramirez’s widebody Ford Fiesta ST is here!

If Rudolph ever had to call in sick, Lamborghini Newport Beach is here for Santa!

Even more exotics!

Extreme AutoFest 2013 – San Diego

It’s another busy year for DaYUUM and I’m a little disappointed in myself that we haven’t been able to pop out our show recaps quick enough. Our personal goal is a few days to a week at the latest but preparations for the next event has kept us busy and behind. A couple weeks ago, we headed south to Qualcomm Stadium for Extreme Autofest’s San Diego event. Headlining the entertainment was DJ Quik.

Last year, we attended with a full staff including our DaYUUM Hunnies and stayed overnight for the event. This year, there was so much going on that not everyone could attend, so instead of staying overnight we managed to run a skeleton crew and drove to SD during the day of the event. Myself, Nilo and Scottie attended the event – four, if you count Glen from Long Beach Auto Tech, whom also joined us.

The drive to San Diego from LA County made for a long day, so long that once we arrived and settled in, Nilo had already fallen asleep before the event started.

The day started at 7:30 AM, when Scottie and myself met with Glen at a local Ralph’s. We headed south on the 405 and made a pitstop to meet Nilo and for me to pick up the Tjin Edition Fusion.

We arrived at the venue and was immediately greeted by Ale. Ale and the crew has always taken very good care of us and since we were a little late to the party that morning, we were quickly taken in via escort.

EAF SD was also the same day as WekFest SJ, so some of our friends were up there as well. We still had great friends there such as AutoFashion and their latest endeavor, Trendy Vape.

EAFSD2013-8397We don’t request much when we go to an event because we know last minute demands can add additional stress to the team, but Nilo has always made one request which EAF has always honored, and that is to be near the models lounge. In the model’s lounge was our long time favorites including Ashley Clark and Amanda Kerr.

This event’s theme was pin-up. It’s a pretty cool theme because it really puts the models in character. So far, every model we have shot has always wanted to do a pin-up shoot, so maybe this theme was a request from the ladies that attended the event.

Since we were close to the model’s lounge, Glen and Nilo pulled in the ladies to shoot with the cars. By doing so, it created a crowd, to the point that it was difficult to set up for a shot but at the same we time had some good laughs.

Away from the models lounge, Marie was with Lexani, so I decided to harass her.

EAFSD2013-8460Here is her flirty pic reenacted… At first she did it so nonchalant but I wasn’t quick on the draw with the camera.

The golden hour was upon us so we tried to get as many shoots in as possible. Some ran longer than others and I didn’t bring any strobes because, well, I didn’t plan on shooting any models in the extent that we did. It got late; by the time we shot with Brittani Paige, it was almost next to impossible to capture anything in focus, but I tried.

EAFSD2013-8649Alexia Cortez is one of the more known girls, there is always a line to take a simple picture of her. When we managed to drag her from the model’s lounge, all nearby photographers swarmed like bees, so we got what we could get.

We had a great time and before we headed back to LA we had a feast at Gordon Biersch. Probably not the best idea before driving 2 hours home, but everyone was starving and it’s become a tradition to eat after an event to unwind and recap the day. On the way home we almost witnessed Nilo jacking up his NSX when he attempted to 4×4 over a center divider. That would have made for a long day!

We want to thank Extreme Autofest for the hospitality, we always enjoy their events and entertainment.

Toyotafest 2012 – Long Beach – TORC

Since 1995, Toyota celebrates an event every year where it brings all Toyota enthusiasts together in one place. The Toyotafest, hosted by TORC, better known as Toyota Owners Restoration Club, is one of the premier gatherings in the West Coast. Celebrating its 17th year at the scenic Queen Mary park in Long Beach, Ca., it welcomes all who love and appreciate everything about Toyota. From the old school Centurys, 2000 GTs, Publicas, Celicas, Truenos, MR2s, Supras, to the latest Scion, and the high tech and luxurious Lexus models. It’s fascinating to see these vehicles either modified or restored. To top it all off, it was the debut of the Scion FR-S. Mr. Troy of Five Axis brought his latest creations of what we could expect on this new found excitement from the Toyota family. With that being said, here’s our coverage of the event.

We decided to come at an early time to shoot some roll in shots and when we arrived, this is how packed and how long the line was for the cars that are showing to get in. Didn’t take long enough to start shooting.

Haven’t seen our good friend Elizabeth “mama liz” Koshak in a while with this green machine. One of the cleanest xA’s I’ve seen. No wonder she got the best xA award. Congratulations on the win!

You’ll see more of the old schools like this from Donlyson when you get to the show portion.

Another friend of ours from “rarejdm”, Mr. Peter Tadros with his toyvitz. He’s done alot with this car and when I talked to him, he still have alot of projects coming in.

Here comes a pack of Supra coming thru.

Another one from Donlyson.

Here comes the vip’s.

There were some trucks too but I didn’t get a chance to cover them. Not really a fan of 4×4’s but here’s a clean pick up with an engine swap.

Cleanest Trueno I’ve seen for this show. You’ll see more of it later when I get to the show area.

Our good friends Tito,

and Nick from Scion Evolution with his xb,

and Jeremy with his tC2.

I remember seeing this Supra in NorCal at Wekfest.

Now, when this sc430 came rolling in, I almost dropped my camera and drooled all over myself. This must have been the cleanest Lexus I’ve seen so far.

So gorgeous it deserves another shot.

Now onto the show portion of the event. It was so organize you can even spot where each categories are located.

Here’s a shot of one of the cleanest engine bays I’ve seen at the show.

A clean xB which I believe the owner drove all the way from NorCal.

With its neat interior.

Here’s another shot of Elizabeth “mama liz” Koshak’s award winning xA.

Another car that won an award at the show, Mishel Trujillo’s best xd.

The homie’s car, Manny Vasquez’s tC which I believe was the best tC out there but since he’s showing under AEM booth, I don’t think he was even judged.

Here’s a few shot of some vip’s that broke my neck.

Now here’s another car that caught my attention. A bagged, VIP RX330. Never thought my mom’s car would look this good until I saw this.

Check out its interior.

Hello LFA.

Here’s the sc430 I was drooling about at roll in. *(Staring at this picture for more than 5 minutes may cause drooling and need some towel to wipe your mouth)*

Don’t tell us we didn’t warned you.

Here’s the FR-S I was talking about. Mr. Troy Sumitomo’s version of FR-S with the Five Axis kit. I’m pretty sure a lot of people can’t wait to get their hands on with this car. It was surrounded by a massive group of people and I was just lucky enough to get a window and snap a photo without any lurkers around.

Then I passed by the 2 crave booth and saw Miss Jessica Endres working and passing some free posters at the booth.

She’s gorgeous isn’t she?!

Then I saw Miss Lena Love.

With Miss Brittani working the PAS mag booth.

Now onto the old schools.

Another clean engine bay from this Trueno.

The cleanest Trueno at the show.

Now onto the Supras.

2JZ beast.

Seeing this MKIII made me miss my very first car. Same exact exterior with a 1JZ engine. My dad gave it to me when I was 18, but unfortunately, with my immaturity at that time, it was taken away from me. I remember when I had it, someone told me to take good care of it because its a piece of jewelry. Now I know why.

A wide body MKIII.

Slammed Camry.

The good friend and ever famous Armand’s MR2.

Now this is what old school yakuza’s used to ride. A clean Century.

That wraps up our coverage of the 17th annual toyotafest. Before I left the scene, I snapped a few scenery of how beautiful of a day it was in Long beach.

That means summer is ahead of us and show season is about to kick in. Crazy weekends in California is ahead of us but that’s okay. That is why we are here trying our best to cover each event for you guys.

Hope you guys enjoy it. Last but not least the cool video by PVR Motorsports.

WEKFEST IV San Francisco 2012

It’s been ten years since the last time I was in Nor Cal.  I lived in San Jose for five months so when I heard about WEKFEST, I was contemplating at first but decided to go since it’s been a decade since the last time I was there. WEKFEST is one of the elite shows in California. There’s always quality when it comes to cars and a massive amount of people. I have yet to experience it since this is my first time attending this event, so with that being said, I will let the photos explain what the Bay Area scene is all about.

Here is one of our friend’s Civic from Tjin Edition. This Civic SI sits on Rotiform wheels. He drove all the way from So Cal to represent for WekFest. We pretty much sat inside the car when we got tired, just to sit because we didn’t have a booth. Thanks Gene for letting us in!

A clean M3 on nice white Volks

A nice Porsche Panamera

This nice NSX looks familiar

One of the few exotics that was at the show

A clean Lexus IS-F

This Evo made me stare at it for a good minute.

Mmmm Silvia.. I believe this is our friend Leon Casino’s ride. Nicely done!

A nice Integra with a clean engine bay

This picture is so funny. Didn’t realize it till I started editing. Do you guys know what I’m talking about?

WekFest was not just about imports but old school domestics as well.

Clean FD

Some wagon love

Another one of our friends from So Cal “Rare JDM’s” own 350z representing for WekFest

Also from “Rare JDM” “Team Vitz” Peter Tadros ride. Nice to see some friends reppin all the way from So Cal.

Another Integra with a clean engine bay

It’s amazing to see a Supra not only with a unique body kit, but also a highway patrol resemblance. Wild would be another word for it. I wouldn’t even take my chance running off of this machine if it pulled me over cause there is no chance at all.

Here’s another view from the back

Some slammed euros

You can’t call it a show if there were no Skyline GTR representing

Another friend of ours from So Cal, Rodney Esteban’s slammed Prius under the Air Runner booth. Definitely a neck breaker.

This thing is bagged!

This Honda Insight is nice. Done right.

This Miata got my attention. With a custom front end conversion, it definitely is a show stopper.

Lotus flower bomb

VIP status

Another clean engine bay

Another friend from So Cal, Big Mike’s famous ‘lude

Another neat engine bay

Keith “Keychain” from “it’s JDM yo” and “Royal Origin” with his accord who also drove all the way from So Cal

An old school mini “very nice”

It’s rare to see a van representing in a show here in California that’s fixed up as JDM style. Nicely done.

Another show stopper that fascinated me. The wrap on this Audi TT was nicely done. Its so clean I even look for little parts that they might have missed but i didn’t find any. Done right.

Here’s a view from the back

A hatch with another clean engine bay

And another one

Candy

Clean Evo

Another nice Lotus

Some S2k love

Some luxury and exotics. I heard this guy drove all the way from So Cal’s Cars and Coffee Saturday morning and arrived at San Francisco late in the afternoon to catch up for WekFest. Pretty crazy and I wonder how many gas stops did he made for the trip.

By the way, this is how packed it was at the show. there’s no room for taking pictures of most of the cars because people are around it so it was really hard to take them. We were lucky enough that we arrived a little bit early before it was open for public so we could at least snap some good shots. To be honest, there were more quality cars that I didn’t get a chance to cover because of the massive amount of people but i tried my best to cover the most that I can.

Here is a dope video from our friend’s at PVR Motorsports!

Oh and before I forget, it wouldn’t be a DaYUUM coverage without the ladies so here’s what most of you have been waiting for.

Miss Trinity Dang (no affiliation with Mikey Dang from PVR.). A hottie from the Bay Area.

Michelle Yee, also from So Cal signing autographs and posing for her fans at the Iclique lounge

Here’s Miss Mars Maylani posing at the iClique lounge

NOS girls

Miss Julie Mai all the way from San Diego representing at Auto Fashion booth

Miss Ashley Vee another hottie from the Bay getting everyone’s attention at the iClique lounge

Miss Stacie Li who’s also from So Cal was there at the iClique lounge

Here’s Miss Alexis Kobayashi from the Bay Area posing under Speed Element booth

Another famous one, Miss Christine Mendoza

Here’s a model that made me drop my jaw. Here’s Miss Trisha Lynn posing with Vex Motorsports

I can just look at her all day

Here’s the gorgeous Miss Genevieve Chanelle. One of the sweetest models you would ever meet. I hope we can do a feature of her one day. If she moves to So Cal, we’ll be the first in line.

She makes me say “oh my god”

Definition of beautiful

Here’s miss Xena Kai sporting a sticker with our friends from “It’s JDM yo”

Another famous model Miss Justene Jaro showing us her new bling G-shocks

The lovely Miss Corissa Furr

She’s keeping it classy

One of our friends representing Low’N Slow crew, who’s also from So Cal, Miss Kristin Nicole Barcelona

All in all, it was a great and huge turnout. Some people would complain about the massive amount of people and some says it should be in a bigger venue but who would complain about attending one of the famous events in the West? You’ll always expect it to be big no matter what. I would do it again next time but with more preparation since now I know what to expect. Before I end this coverage, I would like to give thanks first to the people behind WekFest, for giving us a chance to cover their awesome event. You guys do it big! Thanks for making it possible. Next I would like to say thank you to the Nor Cal CarsxHype crew for welcoming us and the hospitality that they have given from their WekFest pre-meet the night before, it was nice chillin with you guys. Till next time. And to our partners PVR Motorsports, this trip wouldn’t be possible without the collaboration. And last, I’m giving a shout out to all the friends that we met at the show. It was nice to see all of you, knowing that most of you are from So Cal and made the trip up north. Until next time.

I will leave you guys with a photo that would remind me of WekFest, crazy = but fun
