FontanaNissan5_0003To Fontana we go…

Lately, it seems like more and more grassroots automotive events are taking place at Auto Club Speedway. It’s where NASCAR’s Auto Club 400 is ran and where the IZOD INDYCAR’s MavTV 500 will race. The INDYCAR’s will race the 2 mile D-shaped oval at speeds of 180-220 MPH. Being in the stands during the early days of C.A.R.T., I’ve always had the itch to be on the inside of the track. It’s where the paddock was, where the action was, and where the behind-the-scenes took place. Several years later, perhaps even decades, it’s happened.

In collaboration with Speed Ventures, the inside area became the home of Fontana Nissan’s 5 Meet in 2013. Traditionally the annual meet was held at their dealership, but in 2012, it completely outgrew the allowed space. Not to mention all the prep work it takes to shuffle ALL the cars off the dealership lot to accommodate a meet or divert customers in a different direction – it’s understandable on why they decided to relocate. But does moving locations give it less of that homely feel? The underground feel? The lack of urgency? We thought it might, but it didn’t.

Fontana_Nissan5-9082

Fontana_Nissan5-9083It was the calm before the storm, the well organized event was right on time. Scott Vanderheide, the man that spearheads the meet, kept everyone informed about roll in time, from when the gates were going to open to how the event was laid out. Right before 11AM, Scott informed us and all the vendors that the gates were about to open. Once it did, a line of Nissan’s, like starving ants, came trooping in. One-by-one, pack-by-pack, these well behaved drivers filled the lot. GT-R, S-chassis, Z’s, and amongst others parked with their kind. A steady flow of spectators and participants walked the black top during this 100 degree weather that was easily distracted with the Nissan RaceShop Hunnies.

FontanaNissan5_0006While we couldn’t compete against Nissan RaceShop’s air conditioned rig and Scott’s track prepped, 400+ HP Nissan Sentra SE-R, we did have us and Leon’s wide-bodied S-14.

In between heat strokes and taking turns holding our tents down from the burst of winds that Fontana is known to have, Justin and I made a few rounds to capture some of the awesomeness 5 Meet had to offer.

Torque Meet Tour – Orlando

TMTORLANDO--90This year we are pretty excited to join the Torque Meet Tour presented by Universal Technical Institute (UTI). The Torque Meet Tour is  a 5-city FREE AUTOMOTIVE EVENT SERIES, that’s right, free admission, free entry, free vendor space, and free to spectate. The tour travels to  5 different UTI campus from east to west.

The first meet was in Orlando and it went off with a bang. The event was hosted by Jade Motorsports, an automotive club based in Florida. The turn out was spectacular, over 400 cars, over 40 vendors, and over 3000 spectators.

TMTORLANDO-

TMTORLANDO--6The Tjin Edition Roadshow rig was in attendance showing off their Toyota Tacoma which was a collaboration between them and UTI. The Tacoma will be given away at the end of the year to a lucky entrant.

In their booth was a slew of goodies such as the Vortech and Paxton Superchargers.

As a partner of the Torque Tour Meet, we sponsored an award called the “Choice Award.” The requirements to win the award is simple, “The DAYUUM Choice Award is judged on the overall build. The build must show consistency and harmony with the parts being used. Clean paint, cleanliness of the vehicle, and fit ‘n finish will play a large role in this award.” That’s it.. Pretty simple.

WekFest LA 2012 – Long Beach – Vortech Superchargers – Tjin Edition

WekFest made its way back to Long Beach this year for the second time. But for geographical popularity, they chose to call it WekFest LA, which confuses some locals. In any case, we had the chance to visit Hawaii for WekFest and earlier in the year we went to WekFest up in San Francisco, therefore when it came time for the LA event we were destined to be there. Long Beach is our backyard; literally, some of the crew, including myself resides in Long Beach and have for many years.

For WekFest LA we teamed up with our site partners Vortech Superchargers and our friends at Tjin Edition. We were lucky enough to occupy some space and helped man their booth. Several AirPower group cars surrounded the area.

Gene Tjin’s Lysholm powered Camaro led the pack,

Followed by Sean’s teal wrapped 350Z sporting the Vortech V-3 SCi Supercharger.

And finished off with Sal’s “Last Ride”, also fronting the Vortech V-3 Si Supercharger.

Vortech also brought their display of forced induction add-ons

Tjin Edition was on hand with their Wraptivo Civic Si sitting on dual color Rotiforms.

And friends Ian and Nikki joined with their E30 on hot pink BBS’s.

The WekFest show was short of disappointing. Plenty of nicely built Honda’s were on hand such as Big Mike’s Prelude and this Red NSX with gold plated Mugen MF10s, both were part of ItsJDMYo’s harem of cars.

One of my favorite H-cars was this Jasper Green DA. It brought back memories of when I first started the compact car scene when I had my EF sedan, in fact, I also owned a Jasper Green LS. This Acura Integra (DA) sat pretty, with color-matched moldings and mirrors (although aftermarket), an option that didn’t come factory with this trim (LS, if I am not mistaken, I didn’t spend much time on it). That simple modification was fitting for that era. A newer year bumper was added as well.  It was sitting on SSR EX-C NEOs with color-matched accents. It was different to see it not triple-chromed like how I use to see them.

Moving forward, some exotics filled the Queen Mary Event Park, as euros, and various Japanese origin cars also occupied the grass.

Making our way back, we spotted this white Camaro with a Lysholm Supercharger as well as this Miata on a very deep set of SSR EX-C Fins.

An S14 with a cool license plate.

Back by the ItsJDMYo’s model lounge we saw Chaba signing posters and

just on the backside we ran into Leon Casino with his Spoon CR-X

At home base, we got some action with Debbie Sath floating graciously in front of Sal’s “Last Ride”

While a paparazzi were flossing Gene’s ride.

Freddy of AutoFashion was busy jabbin’ on the cell.

WekFest ended on a great note,

MV Designz’ Kogi BBQ Scion xD won 1st place Scion.

Air Runner had a fleet of vehicles including Jon Sibal’s Challenger

and Fuscions iQ and Prius.

At the end of the day, the weather was phenomenal, and we are anticipating WekSOS’s next event. I want to thanks Vortech Superchargers, Tjin Edition, and WekSOS for the hospitality. Thanks to Jimmy Dang for assisting in some of the shots.

Fontana Nissan’s – “Cuatro Meeto”

Kicking off DaYUUM’s string of automotive events this spring, our friends from Fontana Nissan invited us to attend “Cuatro Meeto” – A Nissan enthusiast extravaganza.  This is the fourth Nissan exclusive car meet put together by Nissan Race Shop Motorsports Director, Mr. Scott VanderHeide and

the ever-appealing time attack driver, Ms. Kerryann De La Cruz.  We would definitely not refuse the invite and expect any less than exciting from this dynamic duo. The Nissan race vehicles that they’ve built already show the work that they can put forth.  And if you don’t already know the established friendship all started with an exclusive Q&A feature interview with Ms. De La Cruz as well as Fontana Nissan’s very own FD drift driver, Mauricio Ornelas Jr.  So be sure to be on the lookout for more exclusives to come your way in the very near future…

Scoping out the meeting grounds of “Cuatro Meeto”, a squadron of Fontana Nissan race prepped vehicles welcomed every vendor and invitee at the event.

A variety of Zs were represented at the meet to support Fontana Nissan in addition to showing various modifications and styles people do to their rides.

Showing their brawn, a crew of Xterras and Frontiers arrived in full force.

A number of vendors were also in attendance at the meet – to name a few MotoIQ.com, Berk, Tanabe/SSR, Savinni, Susan Komen group and of course DaYUUM to name a few.

One of my personal favorites at the event was this pristine white S13 on SSR SP1 that totally broke a few necks.

The event wasn’t short of ol ‘skul too in attendance – with a mix of some VIP as well.

A crew of R35s joining in… I would say that was a million dollar line up.

And there’s our very own Van_DaYUUM_Paul, putting his photo skills to work for Instagram – who needs a DSLR when you’ve got your iPhone…

The event will not be complete without some eye-candy to feast our eyes on…

There’s the charming and DaYUUM’s feature model – Ms. Marissa Hiroko

Spunky Ms. Brittani was in attendance to support the event.

New mesmerizing favorites, Ms. Ashley Clark and Ms. Amanda Kerr.

And of course, we wouldn’t forget the sweet Claudia Lopez.

We complete and end the day with a good tan from the blazing heat at Fontana.  I am sure that we will definitely be back to support Fontana Nissan next year and their upcoming events.   As we continue the partnership, you can expect some good racing events, builds and exclusive features with the help from Nissan Race Shop head honcho, Mr. Scott VanderHeide.  We are very thrilled and looking forward to this…

Check out the event video coverage by PVR Motorsports’ – Mikey Dang.

Peace and until the next one…  -jayson

Mauricio Ornelas Jr. – Up Close and Personal with Formula Drift Pro Driver

For us, Fontana is a love hate relationship. We love it because of the people we have met, like Scott Vanderheide and Kerryann De La Cruz. But, the hate… Ok hate is a strong word, but we don’t get along.

The first outing was to our one-on-one with Kerryann, we were challenged with arctic like temperatures and threatening thunderclouds – we conquered.  DaYUUM-1, Fontana-0

The second time, we were lucky enough to have an one-on-one with Nissan RaceShops’ Mauricio Ornelas Jr. This time, there was tornado like winds with clashing bay doors and flying debris. We stuck through it – its a draw: DaYUUM-1, Fontana-0, Draw-1

During our trip, drifter John Jimison sat down with Mauricio Ornelas Jr., a self-funded pro driver for Formula Drift, to speak about his career. Mauricio is debuting as a rookie this year for Formula D. Having already been drifting for 8 years, Mauricio drifted competitively for two. Impressive, yes. in the short two years he was able to obtain his Formula Drift license to compete with seasoned drivers such as Dai Yoshihara, Ken Gushi, and Vaughn Jr., just to name a few.

Mauricio speaks about music, his favorite cologne, down to his dream umbrella girl. We wont spoil the ending for you so check out the clip. But, excuse the clatter and some slight sound technicalities. We hope you enjoy it, its one of our longest to date, but well worth it.

You can also catch Mauricio during the first round of Formula Drift in Long Beach on April 6th and 7th or on Facebook at: www.facebook.com/95Green14 and www.facebook.com/MauricioOrnelasJr

Thank you Mauricio, Scott at Fontana Nissan / Nissan RaceShop for all the time given. PVR Motorsports, John Jimison, and of course our crew!
