Mash Up! Three – Highlights

MashUP3Mash-UP! Three is our 4th collaboration with the Guppy House chain and each event we try to change it up a little. Mash-Up! Three was a celebration of Guppy House’s 8th location and our 2 year Anniversary as a website. We also felt that a charity was necessary, therefore we contacted the guys at Infinite Auto Design to put us in touch with the We Strong Foundation. We chose We Strong because of what Wayne (@waynestrong) is doing. Wayne’s battles with Leukemia gave him the urge to give back to the people that may have it worse than him. Wayne had friends and family to support him and felt that others could use the same encouragement to stay positive and be strong. We thank everyone that purchased a reserve spot and raffle tickets because it all went to a great cause.

I woke up Saturday morning to an email from Danny Nguyen to let me know highlight photos were ready to be download. We chose a dedicated photographer because with all the running around trying to get things handled, it’s rare that the team has time to capture the event. Danny has a creative eye and awesome with night shots so it was fitting to have him shoot the event. Some of you have already seen his work on JDMZipTies.com.

Events aren’t as easy as some may think, especially organized events. Permits, planning, staffing, organizing, purchasing, blah blah blehh.. All take time and money. I would say, I wished I could have planned logistics more smoothly but the early morning complaints from neighboring business didn’t sit well with me, or was part of my plan since the 3 others we planned went without a hitch and had 110% support from surrounding neighbors and the city. Chino Hills, was a bit, ummm… different – to be politically correct. Therefore, half of our planned area was cut short. I’m not 100% sure where the breakdown was, but a phone call and an email from the complex lawyer wasn’t the communication I was hoping for. I’m still perplexed on how they got my email and cellphone number. I’d rather save that type of surprise for an unclaimed bank account that had billions of dollars in it.

Overall, I felt the turn out was good, good only because I’d rather see all the cars grouped together rather than seeing a sick Evo next to a stock 4Runner, it just kills the buzz, at least for me, but what can you do when you’re dealing with public space and bitchy neighbors. Scion Evolution did a great job helping us with the logistics and keeping it real. It’s amazing how many people will name drop just to get through the ropes. Evening name dropping people that are no longer in our family.

We try to mash things up with different styles of cars and talents. Since we are passionate of street art we brought out one of our favorite graffiti crews, NASA. NASA has been around for at least 2 decades and has then moved on to other aspects of design such as apparel and footwear, so its nice to see them out to support.

MashUpThree_2013-9322Here is Just195 in action. This wall also acts as our photo backdrop.

We like a diversity of cars whether its American, old school, new school, it’s all in the appreciation of the enthusiasts individuality.

Our grand openings are nothing without music and talent to go with it. DJ Skitz (@deejayskitz) from Awthentik Vibes was our VJ for the night and simply killed it.

MashUpThree_2013-9515Capturing the event was David, the owner of the Guppy House chain, operating his remote control drone.

In between the go-go sets, we had some raffle prizes that were donated by many awesome supporters such as Rehv Clothing, Wheel Warehouse, DC Sports, AirREX, Scosche, Vaping LA, IZZI Gadgets, and Cadence Acoustics. All proceeds from the purchase of raffle tickets went to our charity, We Strong Foundation.

We tried to add a little halloween spirit and held a costume contest. The winner of each category won $100 cash money and $100 gift card to Guppy House. By the time we held the contest it was kind of late, so some of the participants didn’t want to participate anymore or had already dispersed. The contest was split up into 2 groups, scariest/original and seksiest.

In the seksi portion, we had Lilly Evan (@sexylillyevans) dressed as your fantasy (“whatever you want me to be” as she described), Ashley Clark as a Mermaid, and Kallita Daniel (@kallitadaniel) as Princess Leia from Star Wars.

We took a short break before the final raffle.

MashUpThree_2013-9983Before giving out our final raffle, we had Wayne from We Strong Foundation say a few words.

MashUpThree_2013-9996Lastly, the IZZI Orbit, AirREX gift certificate, and Scosche headphones was drawn for this lucky winner.

We had Danny stick around to take some group shots in front of the completed photo backdrop done by Just195 and Rich One of NASA Crew. I don’t like having my picture taken so it’s even more awkward when I initiate them, but I always feel it needs to be done. Especially during good times like these, you want to record events not only in your mind but visually. It helps you remember a timeline of life.

We have more pictures coming folks…Until later… @DaYUUMDen

Formula Drift 2013 – Irwindale – Title Fight

I want to start of by saying thanks to Formula Drift for giving us the opportunity to cover the season opener in Long Beach and TItle Fight this year in Irwindale. It’s always exciting to be close to the action and hearing the drivers blip their throttle to maintain or keep the proximity close. 2013 was also the first year there was a tire and manufacturer standings.

Leading up to the final round of Formula Drift, Michael Essa was ahead in points by 15.50 points. Essa has laid down consistent runs utilizing every bit of the track and hitting the clipping cones on point. Impressing judges time and time again, Essa gained an extra 12 points by posting an insane run and scored 96.6 to qualify first at Irwindale. 2012 champion Daigo Saito sat in an uncomfortable 5th place 80 points back.

FDIRW_2013-9593

FDIRW_2013-9596In top 32, Michael was up against 32 qualifier, Luke Pakula. During the lead run, Essa’s motor took a turn for the worse and called 5 minutes. But at the same time, Pakula had also called 5 mins with mechanical issues. The controversy lies with who called it quits first? Essa or Pakula? Who cares right? Second place Forsberg does. If Essa advances, it would push Forsberg further back in the points race. After much delay, Essa advances to the top 16.

FDIRW_2013-9658Second place Forsberg came out strong and put the heat on Dai Yoshihara. Forsberg would then continue to top 16.

I’ve observed Wang as he would launch hard off the light, usually leading the lead car and fall back to a comfortable spot. He did that time and time again, but the 2JZ powered S14 sounded so fresh.

It’s always exciting when championships are determined at the last round and FD brought that. What a great way to end 10 years of American Drifting. We wish FD future successes and hope to cover them for you.

Until next time… DaYUUMDen

DaYUUM “Trippple Threat” Angels

Not everyday a person has the opportunity to photograph a beautiful woman, let alone three at the same time. We had the chance during the summer to do just that with Edwin from Evolve Photography. We brought in Edwin because of his experience, creativity, and his workflow is flawless. It was also the a special moment where we were able to gather Marissa, Ashley, and Amanda together for a single and group session.

We used Infinite Auto Design in Huntington Beach as our studio for the day. The owner, Brian, allowed us to take over his establishment and moved props around as needed. The shop has ample amount of space for the types of shots we were looking for. Mark from Rehv Clothing kindly brought over his bike for us to use as well. For some of the shots David from Guppy Green House lent us his C63.

With these shots, I hope you guys can experience the beauty in these pictures as much as we did. Special thanks to Edwin, Mark, David of Guppy TeaHouse, and of course the DaYUUM “Trippple Threat” Angels, You can visit them at SEMA 2012 with the AirPower Group (Vortech, Paxton, Lysholm) at booth# 23063

Also, visit their pages on Facebook. Marissa Hiroko, Ashley Clark, and Amanda Kerr.

Marissa Hiroko – Up Close and Personal – Revisited

Most didn’t see her coming, but we were lucky enough see the beautiful shooting star known as Marissa Hiroko. It’s been about a year since Marissa Hiroko began modeling and it’s been several months since our first meeting. Through the months , she has been traveling the speed of light and appeared in many model lounges from AutoCon, SpoCom, Extreme AutoFest, and most recently Nisei, where she was Miss Nisei Showoff. Marissa has become a popular catch for photographers and event promoters who want her at their events.

Staying true and classy, Marissa is still kind and generous as fame hasn’t corrupted her.

We had the chance to catch up with  Marissa again during another photo session we had with her, enjoy the pictures and her words.

Thanks to Marissa her for time and Edwin at EVolve Photography for his awesome work.
For bookings email: bookmarissahiroko@yahoo.com

DaYUUM: So you’re kind of popular now, how does it feel 🙂 ?
Marissa: It feels awesome. I am really proud of how much I have done and accomplished in my first year of modeling.

DaYUUM: Tell us a little bit of what has happened since we first met?
Marissa: Since then sooo much has happened haha. Tons of car shows, I got 6 pages in the August issue of SuperStreet Magazine, a couple smalll photos here and there in other magazines such a DSPORT.

DaYUUM: What type of shoot do you find yourself most comfortable with? (glamour, swimsuit, etc)
Marissa: Honestly, I am comfortable doing any style of shooting. For me, its the photographer has a lot to do with how comfortable I am. If I get a weird vibe (which happens sometimes) then obviously it shows… But usually after a little warm up, my poses and everything flow fine.

DaYUUM: You have been in various model lounges, but how does it feel to headline an event like Nisei as Miss Showoff?
Marissa: I was actually surprised out of all the other models that I was chosen as Miss Showoff haha, but it was awesome and I was very proud model (:

DaYUUM: Have you had a bad or embarrassing moment during a shoot?
Marissa: One time I was walking around MOCA in Los Angeles for a shoot and I slipped down stairs in my super tall heels. It didnt hurt or anything but still embarrassing because I am so clumsy and everyone who was around saw hahah.

DaYUUM: What’s the worst phrase/statement/or comment someone has commented or emailed you?
Marissa: Oh man… One time I got cussed out in an email for not wanting to work with someone for free, another I have been asked out on a date and been called some mean names for saying no haha. People are so mean sometimes!!

DaYUUM: What makes or breaks a shoot?
Marissa: I think its all up to the model…. No matter the experience of the photographer, if you are a good model that knows what they are doing and how to work the camera then there should never be a disappointment or problem with the photo shoot images. I think as a model you have to be able to ‘work it’ hahah

DaYUUM: Who would you like to shoot with again? And, who would you like to work with?
Marissa: I would really love to shoot with Edwin at Evolve Photography again, super kick ass photographer. And I want to shoot again with Rey Trajano. Someone I would like to shoot with is Steve Bitanga, his work is just too awesome haha.

DaYUUM: Has everything in the modeling career gone as planned for you?
Marissa: Hahah, when I first started it was just for fun! But I am very happy I stuck with it because look at me now haha. I couldn’t be more happy with myself (:

DaYUUM: Do you have any advice for  any male or female out there that wants to get into modeling?
Marissa: Hmm… Just always stay true to your morals and to who you are in the beginning of your career. Don’t change for the scene, fame or for anyone else. As long as you stay positive, stay humble and reach for your dreams anything is possible (:

DaYUUM: Are there any last words you want to say to your fans, stalkers, and/or creepers?
Marissa: Hahaha. To everyone, thank you all for the continuous love and support. I do love you all! My fans are theeee best! <3

You can also meet Marissa at SEMA with the AirPower Group Booth #23063  (Vortech, Paxton, and Lysholm).
