Leon Casino’s Widebody NSX

Photos: Denny H.
Words: Denny H.

The time I got to tag-a-long with Cory and Justin.

For some reason this set slipped through. I thought it been posted until, well, I looked at the site and found it missing.

Cory was in town one night from Arizona and was going to shoot Justin’s RB tC and Leon’s NSX for I think USDM Freax. Since they were going to be in Long Beach, Justin called to see if I wanted to tag-a-long. I took the opportunity because like shooting at night and I haven’t had the chance to shoot Justin’s car with the new wrap yet.

I tried to stay out of Cory’s shots as much as possible, since he was the main shooter, but Leon’s car just had so much detail in it. I wanted to get every possible angle. We were stopping people in the tracks confused at what Leon’s creation was. It was fun, except for Michelle which was freezing to death.

Anyways, unto the set.

Tjin Edition 2015 Honda Fit – SEMA Preview 2014

This year at the SEMA Show there will be a large number of small custom cars amongst the sea of Mustangs and Camaros. Some of the you really should keep an eye out for the awesome custom widebody Tjin Edition Honda Fit.

Tjin_HondaFit_Final_3000px_V2Neil Tjin, has taken the little Japanese runabout and went nuts with it, fitting massively flared wheel arches that are too wide for the bumpers, so they were massaged by Josh Freeman, and then fine tuned by Luis Rodriguez from L&R Autobody.

IMG_20141016_104538

fit_03Under the new metal flares are 18-inch iForged wheels, which are matched up to Falken tires. A cool set of Coplus headlights and fog lights, along with a custom Green paint job finish off the exterior.

Interior upgrades include a Webasto sunroof, full Katzkin upholstery, and a high-end Sony stereo and entertainment system. Come to think of it, these few interior mods cost more than the car itself!

IMG_20141016_104510 (1)In terms of dynamics, Tjin Edition Honda Fit is slammed using AirREX Digital Air Suspension system, and it benefits from Bisimoto engine upgrade parts.

SEMA Show 2013 – The Ladies of Sema

sema2013-0192

We all know SEMA is one of the biggest gathering of everything about automotive and this year marks another impact in the automotive industry. According to the press release, this year’s presence have recorded the largest amount of companies involved and gathered under one roof tallied in its history and I’m pretty sure that goes the same way in attendance as foot traffic was out of the ordinary. As you may all know, last year, the crew decided to pick cars that made it as their personal favorites out of the show for coverage and that’s not going to change this year but we kind of feel that wasn’t enough to sooth you guys viewing pleasures. We decided to add more content out of the SEMA show to give you guys more feel of how SEMA is being done every year. As most media people that got credited to cover SEMA, 90-95% of this coverage are all new cars, new products, and everything automotive related and we all know that’s not all that is there. Of course promoting a name brand is the top priority of these companies and to do that, they usually hire the top, well known gorgeous women in the industry. To these ladies, if they ever get hired to work for SEMA, they know they’ve made a name in the industry and kind of reach the top of their career and that is what we’re trying to show you as the other content for our coverage of this year’s SEMA show. Here are the ladies of SEMA 2013.

South hall is where all the wheels and tire companies are located and if you haven’t been to SEMA, this is the place where most of the models are in attendance and that is why I decided to cover this part of the convention first to get it done with. As soon as I enter the hall, I was greeted by the girls of Falken tires booth as they are placed right by the entrance doors. First off, we have Katie Carnes as she was posing right by the 2010 Falken Porsche 997 GT3 RSR ALMS car and also handing out falken playing cards and lanyards.

SEMA Show 2012 – Jayson’s Pick(s)

Yesterday ended the last day of the largest trade – automotive event of the 2012, SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association).  The SEMA show consists of at least 6000+ automobile companies worldwide that brings together aftermarket, original equipment, car dealers, distributors, installers, restorers and automotive specialists under the roof of the Las Vegas Covention Center.  The show brings one of the largest events in Las Vegas’.  As a group, we have decided that aside from sharing snaps of the various automotive halls at SEMA, each Dayuum member that have attended the event will be providing our DaYUUM followers and readers with personal selections that they found original, inspiring and  inventive… well,  let me rephrase that; selections that each member found Cool, Entertaining and Seksi.  That sounds about right to now… =)

Starting my selection this year, at Number (6), was believed to be one of last year’s hot rides sitting outside the convention center – StanceLab’s, Merc E.  This Merc caught the attention of the fitment fanatics.   The E’s new body style accented by the Carlsson body kit and AirRex air suspension complete the overall VIP style look of this Merc E350. Now with its revamped look and a new set of kicks, The bright red wrap and new blazing white Work wheels made this such a looker and was hard to miss just outside of the South hall of the convention center.

At Number (5), the Patina and Rat Rod looks of this – VW Bug and Dodge truck is something that I felt was creative and “thinking out of the box.”  Patina is a coating of various chemical compounds such as oxides, carbonates, sulfates formed on the surface of the metal during exposure to various environmental conditions.  Surely, this pair will likely be loved or hated by onlookers. However, I found the aged look of these vehicles aesthetically appealing.

The ’54 Chevrolet, at Number (4) completes my selection that can be viewed outside of the convention center.  As a fan of a big body styled vehicles, this classic is something that I would like to cruise in any time, any day.  Keeping the classic look while laying frame to the ground is an attribute that I’ve imagined will pair up well with these classics.  Updating the ride comfort was done by adding an air ride system coupled with some Detroit Steel wheels which sets this Chevy off my charts.

Now let’s start my top three choices that can be found indoors.  While the most people witnessed the hottest sport compact at SEMA being the FRs and BRz, I found a number of Nissans that I believe brought back the excitement of having a Japanese sports car.  Rounding up my Number (3) and Number (4) on my list respectively are the Ben Sopra R35s from Fatlace and Advan.  Fatlace has been a new front runner at adding new flavors and opening up the imaginative minds of up and coming enthusiasts.  Advan, well what can I say, they are one of the most sought after and prominent wheel manufacturer out in the market.  Fatlace’s GT-R headlined the Falken booth at the South hall while the Advan’s Godzilla lead its booth at the Central hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.  The bold widebody aero kit from Ben Sopra for the Nissan R35 GT-R simply looks stunning.  Don’t be deceived by the looks as the R35’s aerodynamics are also improved once suited with this unique aero kit.  The aero kit increases the width of the R35 by at least 4 inches.  The side splitters improve air flow which extends to the rear end of the kit.  The kit also sports a one-piece tilting front clip.  One of the most noticeable parts of the widened aero kit is the rear cantilever-mounted rear wing, located as high and far back.  This was designed to efficiently generate downforce.   The rear diffuser under the bumper was designed to control the air from underneath, planting the vehicle towards the ground, while greatly influencing the GT-R’s behavior during cornering. Ben Sopra’s widened aero kit may not be for the typical Joe as it is estimated to retail somewhere around the $40K range.  However, if you can afford such as sports car such as the R35 and willing to take your ride to the extreme – this may be a kit for you.

Finally we’ve arrived to my final and top choice from the event – D Sport 1996 Skyline R33 GTR.  Not only does this R33 look good in black but truly menacing as well.  The chute positioned at back says it all… this is a devil that doesn’t look back.  And as I love somewhat older vehicles, it was only fitting that I close my SEMA selection with this 90’s beast.

I’ll let the DSport Skyline R33 video speak for itself – Enjoy!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jL4wNZXvQU8

As I prepare to the drive back to Cali – Hope you guys enjoyed the read up through the selection and hope that you guys would also check out the rest of the crews’ SEMA picks.

Until the next one… Peace

Sal Valdezs – Last Ride – Ford Mustang GT 5.0

Not long ago we had the opportunity to tagalong during AirPower Group’s first lifestyle video, which was also the first time we met Sal Valdez and his 2011 Mustang GT. Sal drove up to our meeting spot in a stealthy but conspicuous manner. Confusing? Well, Sal’s GT armors itself with a nice dark grey but is accented with carbon fiber and a vibrant yellow. It kind of seems a little odd at first but it’s well played.

When we spoke to Sal about the build, it was more emotional than the typical, “I want a bad ass car, period.” But rather it was,”this is how Joe would have built it.

Sal’s project began with buddy Joe Gosinski, the owner of Chicane Sport Tuning, in the middle of 2010. The initial idea was for Joe to completely overhaul a Mustang to be a one-of-kind version of the Shelby Super Snake, the Saleen Xtreme. Sal hired Joe and trusted him to execute it without any guidance, but unfortunately it didn’t materialize, on December 24th, 2010, Joe was murdered in his shop. The whereabouts of the killer is still at large.

With the shocking turn of events, the project was side railed. Sal’s motivation and desire to build the ultimate Mustang wasn’t even a blip on the radar.

During a memorial cruise, Sal met Matt Bernal of Bernal Auto Style, Matt was Joe’s friend and right-hand man at Chicane Sport Tuning. In conversation, Sal overheard about Matt’s desire to build a new Mustang for SEMA but couldn’t complete it without the proper backing. That’s when Sal pulled Matt aside and explained what his plans were with Joe. In days to come, Sal and his wife decided that building a Mustang in honor of Joe was a great idea. Sal then purchased the 2011 Ford Mustang and called Matt to execute it.

The Mustang was then dubbed “Last Ride” which signifies the last car that would fly the Chicane Sport Tuning name.

“Last Ride” would feature some styling cues form the Europeans. The exterior is well executed with the Trufiber hood, Trufiber trunk, and RK Sport roof. Teresa Contreras at L&G Enterprises nicely color-matched and separated the body color by a broad distinctive yellow stripe splitting the carbon fiber and body color, all courtesy of D-BASF paint.

The mirror tops was also color-matched to the yellow stripe as was the Ford Racing California rear wing by CJ Pony Parts.

A quarter window scoop was added giving it that look of the 60’s fastback.

A Trufiber front lip, splitter, and diffuser help keep the wheels to the ground, while the brake ducts help cool off the 14″ 6-piston Baer brakes under hard driving.

Another fine detail was the custom Silverhorse Racing gas door that was engraved “Last Ride”.”

Finishing off the body was a Chicane Sport Tuning banner painted on the lower rockers.

Keeping it planted to the ground is a set of Vossen CV3 wrapped with Falken FK-452. The Vossen’s were a perfect match to the build because of the quality, style, and design. Everything was perfect about the CV3: the offset, color and size.

To stiffen the chassis, a custom carbon strut brace was designed and made by Joe himself.

The suspension of choice was Saleen Racecraft N2+ adjustable coilover kit glues the “Last Ride” to the pavement.

Although exterior cosmetics serve a large role in the build, it wasn’t the only purpose.  Sal added an AIRAID intake system which was butted up to a Vortech  V-3 Si Supercharger.

Sal chose Vortech because that was the only supercharger Joe stood behind and he stood behind nothing but the best. Combine that with the polished snail grabs any passer-by’s attention.

This set up boosts a healthy 8 psi with the aid of an air-to-air intercooler, good enough for 605HP, and 472 ft. lbs. of torque. Sal said it still gets 21 MPG on the highways and runs completely efficient without any overheating issues on the track.

Sal also installed a 50 shot of nitrous from NX Express for that extra oomph. To finish off the performance of things, a set of Doug Thorley tri-y headers and dual-exhausts rounded out the horsepower end of things.

To keep Sal safe, a harness bar was installed behind the Corbeau seats and strapped with Corbeau belts.

A set of AutoMeter and Dakota Digital gauges keep all vitals within a glace.

Sal’s Last Ride is definitely flawless. Anyone can admire the work and pick out all the fine details in the build. Fit and finish was immaculate and the colors were so well played.

I especially love all the memorial badge replaces where the factory 5.0 would have been, and the Chicane logo on the rear badge.

When we heard the story of the build and closely looked at the details, we know Sal and Matt put a lot of thought into building a vehicle that Joe would be proud of. And, there is no doubt, Joe would be proud of the “Last Ride.”

As of late, the “Last Ride” currently now has an 8-rib upgrade kit and is now boosting at 12 psi., thanks to a 3.47” pulley. Greg at Racers Edge Tuning was able to tune it to get over 630rwhp. The car also has a Ford Racing Boss 302 intake manifold courtesy of CJ Pony Parts.

Here is a bitchen video put together by Photo MD.

From vendors, to show cars, to models, and of course the spectators, it seems to be bigger than last year’s turn out. They even had the dance competition and the bikini contest which had more competitors and more people attending this year. Motion also accomidated a space for us to show and sell our latest shirts and stickers and to house our three lovely DaYUUM Angels, Ashley, Marissa, and Amanda, and of course to meet our fans as well. We want to thank Motion for giving us the opportunity and for having us be a part of one of the greatest shows here in Cali. We can’t wait for the next one. With that being said, here’s the first part of the show where we cover most of the car show portion. We will have the models and the bikini contest later on for part 2 so stay tuned.
