AutoCon LA 2013 - Santa Anita Park

AutoConLA40For the last 4 years Automotive Connection has steadily grown. In the beginning, they where in an underground parking structure located in the City of Industry, the following year it expanded to the abandoned Marine Corps Air Station El Toro in Irvine. 2011 is when they introduced "The Runway" and the event continued into the night. MCAS El Toro was a great site but the staging area was cramped and insufficient. In 2012, they brought us to Santa Anita Park. The venue was large and had ample room for staging and spectator parking, the weather was scorching and the venue was packed. This year, Automotive Connection, also know as AutoCon, returned to Santa Anita Park. During an interview on "No one likes the TUNA" on YouTube, Justin spoke about the weather, "heat is one thing so I tried to schedule it [AutoCon] earlier this year." The days leading up to the event was bearable, just a typical 70's Cali weather, but to much surprise the day of the event was marked as the "Hottest Day of the Week", ironic don't you think? For the first time, the weather predictors where right and indeed it was hot, but unlike the previous year there was a nice breeze. This year's staggered roll-in made it smoother and quicker, they seemed a bit short handed for an event of this capacity, but event planning is hectic and anything that can go wrong typically will. Even finding reliable and useful help can be difficult. When we rolled into the venue I was surprised to see the aisles were a bit tight since we have been conditioned that emergency vehicles needed at least 10-15 feet of space for them to pass. Somehow, AutoCon seemed to have dodged that bullet as it seemed like we were on top of each other. Nevertheless, we had a great spot. Given the fat cars we had with us, a portion of our booth was tightly packed with little space to move. In some cases it was awesome to keep  people from cutting through the booth, but it was challenging when we needed to get into our cars.AutoConLA108The event brought out a lot of people and food trucks.autocon-0094autocon-0096autocon-0097The main models lounge was up front by the main stage, while Spocom also had their own models lounge in the back.
